The session begins with introductions and setting intentions through a guided mindfulness exercise to foster a focused and reflective mindset for writing. Participants will explore how creativity enhances qualitative research by enabling richer, more engaging storytelling and rigorous analysis.
The session also includes a detailed focus on descriptive writing techniques, emphasizing the importance of sensory details and perspective in crafting vivid, compelling narratives. Participants will learn how to balance details to avoid overwhelming the reader, as well as how to use selective description to evoke emotional resonance.
Additionally, the concept of narrative smoothing will be introduced, highlighting how qualitative researchers creatively fill in gaps to produce cohesive, immersive stories while maintaining the integrity of their data.
Finally, the workshop concludes by setting expectations for giving and receiving feedback, emphasizing kindness, respect, and clarity to create a supportive environment for future review days.
